This was a huge, monster Toshiba cold chamber die casting machine weighing over 170,000 kg (375,000 lbs). The machine had a locking pressure of 2500 tons. The challenge was not only the size and weight of each component, and manipulating them while cleaning and painting, but also the number of pieces that hand to be cleaned, painted, inventoried, packed and stored. The final transformation was amazing as can be seed from some of the “before and after” photos. Cold chamber die casting machines present a challenge to refinishing due tot the casting process. Much heat is generated and the contaminants are hard to remove. In addition, much grease is used to lubricate the locking end which had to be removed before paint could be applied.
